Some results of the implementation of the EU Maritime Policy in 2021

The European Union is actively involved in the development of the World Ocean. Today, it positions itself not only as a user of "ocean resources", but also as a leader of sustainable development, as well as a "global actor" playing an independent role in shaping the system of international ocean governance. The EU has a wide range of multilateral "strategic" maritime interests, which it primarily associates with ensuring its security. His maritime aspirations relate to overlapping spheres of activity, including political, economic, functional, sectoral, spatial and administrative. Therefore, the implementation of its maritime policy is of particular importance for the EU

The escalation around Taiwan: the edges of conflict

The Taiwanese topic - a potential military clash between China and the United States as a result of either a violent "unification" or a unilateral declaration of independence of the island - does not leave the focus of attention of world analysts. The information feed throughout the year brings alarming news about the growth of the activity of the Chinese Air Force in the Taiwan air defense zone or about working out scenarios to prevent the capture of an unnamed island during US military maneuvers. Harsh warning statements are being made from both capitals. In the face of China and the United States, we see the rivalry of two economies, two ideologies, two development models, two political systems. Taking into account the latter circumstance - the difference between political systems and bureaucratic mechanisms - both participants in the confrontation have their own characteristics and motivations of their interests, algorithms of action and goal-setting in acute foreign policy situations.

Georges Pompidou

This summer marks the 110th anniversary of the birth of the second Prime Minister and the second President of the Fifth Republic, Georges Pompidou. This energetic, cheerful man did not even manage to complete his seven-year mandate as head of state. A serious illness took him away too soon. There was undeservedly little written about him in our country. And Pompidou was an extraordinary man who went through an original path in politics. Georges Pompidou entered the history of his country as the successor of his great predecessor, General de Gaulle, who developed his main ideas. He was the prime minister and president who made France a genuine industrial power, and the man who taught compatriots to love the art of contemporaries.

Ho Chi Minh spoke to him: People's Ambassador and Vietnamese legend

The Soviet diplomatic school did not apply the personnel concept of "rotation". As in the economy, the "His Majesty" plan reigned, the binding to the region of foreign work was strong. And if life turned out to be richer, then plans were formed and executed with acceleration. Approximately so, shortly after the signing of the Geneva Agreements on Indochina in 1954 and the opening of the eastern branch, Vietnamese appeared among the foreign languages studied at MGIMO (according to one version, the instruction was given from the very top after no one could translate the message that came from Hanoi). A young turkologist, Yvette Glebova, was assigned to teach. They immediately recruited the first group of students, which included Rashit Khamidulin, a native of the working village of Standard Concrete, which lay within the boundaries of Krasnogorsk near Moscow. Thus began the Foreign Ministry branch of the national Vietnamese studies.
