DIPLOMATHY

S.Lavrov, minister of foreign affairs of Russia Speech at the gala night on the occasion of Diplomats Day

The confidence in our forces is given to us by the fact that Russia has spoken not against any associations of states, but on the contrary – for establishing principles of equality, in the best interests of one another, collective settling of key issues on basis of international law and central role by UN, in international relations. We are for the objective that permit all the states and peoples to feel equally protected and assured that their right for the choice of their future be respected.

A.Meshkov, vice-minister of foreign affairs of Russia As far back as a year and a half ago Ukraine was thrown into a dilemma: who are you with – Russia or the West, and now such dilemma is thrown to Europe

Take, for example, BRICS, in which Russia is the most active participant,- it is the first world economics;  as far as the population is concerned, it is a half of the world population and as far as the territory is concerned, it’s a half of the world territory.  Even taking the example of BRICS – what Russia’s isolation is it possible to talk of? Our Chinese, Indian, Turkish, Latin-American partners are extremely interested in the opening opportunities of cooperation.

VICTORY!

A.Filitov,E.Pyadysheva. Yalta –époque of 70 years

Today, when the world is balancing on the edge of dangerous instability, it might seem, the Yalta Conference Jubilee, a truly époque event, unprecedented in international relations, could become a conceptual and ideological band of the breaking apart world. And again reconfirming the basic principles of the Yalta peace, it would be possible to evolutionally move towards the creation of a new political system, acknowledging the polycyclic character of modern international space.

John Beyrle. Americans at the Red Square

At  such periods of tension and misunderstanding, as now, it’s important to look once again at the Soviet-American alliance during the Second World War, when the diversities were objectively much stronger, than now, but however the USSR and the USA managed to carry out a pragmatic and productive approach to cooperation, which served not merely our personal interests, but also helped to change the course of history.

Oivind Nordsletten. “Norge taker dere” – “Norway is thanking you”

These words, put onto the headline, express the measure of feelings, which the Norwegians had, when in October 1944, after the Soviet army had turned the occupants away not only from its own land – the North of the Arctic Circle and Kolsky Peninsula –but also from the Oriental Finnmark, a Norwegian Province, boarding with the Soviet Union at those times and  with Russia - now.

V.Vorobiev, E.Vorobieva. How the Soviet Union saved Jewish people during the Great Patriotic War and contributed to creating the State of Israel

The Soviet Union is a country, at which territory one of the largest Jewish communities of the world live, a country, which made a decisive contribution to the victory over Nazi Germany, the latter had set a goal to physically exterminate all the Jewish, a country that for than practically half a century was one of the two superpowers, determining world politics, - played a key role in the emergence and establishment of the State of Israel.

COLUMN OF EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

A.Oganesyan. A trap for Germany?

Many people still ask themselves: what compelled Angela Merkel to make “turn over the Atlantic Ocean” towards Washington? In fact, there must have been some solid arguments to relinquish the oriental vector of her policy in favour of the centre of force, the latter, remaining as such, is evidently losing the instrumentalities of global management.

UKRAINIAN VECTOR

A..Lukin. Consolidation of the non occidental world amid the Ukrainian crisis: Russia and China, SCO and BRICS

It’s difficult to overestimate the influence of the Ukrainian crisis over the structure of international relations. One of its consequences is the acceleration of Russia’s turn to Asia, which one being widely discussed nowadays.  The turn began long before the crisis. Russia’s main goal was to deepen cooperation with  states of the Asia-Pacific Region, where the centre of world politics and economy has being moving to.

S.Kosenko. Maidan knot

If Washington has consciously and cutely put up a crisis, which is being used as a motive to step up global pressure against disobedient Russia, then “non-understanding” of this vicious action and the disgraceful role of conciliator in it by “enlightened” European politicians, simply strikes. Or, more precisely, causes indignation and disgust. At the same time, outside the EU’s circles, there are heard more and more sound voices of different analysts and experts, speaking of the fatality of the EU’s present policy towards Russia, in the first place, for Europe itself.

GEOPOLITICS

G.Ivashentsov. Indian Ocean: new players are joining in the game

In the region of the Indian Ocean there passes the most active in the world trade route, including the single round-year way between the European part of our country and the Russian Far East. In this region there are situated Afghanistan and Iraq – zones of the present two widest military conflicts, as well as Iran. In a number of regional states the inner political situation is highly unstable. Pirates operate in the region of Horn of Africa and Malaccan Strait.

V.Denisov. Nuclear problem of the Korean Peninsula: is there any way out of the dead lock?

The nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula is becoming deeper and deeper and not easily soluble. For more than five years the six-party negotiation mechanism to settle the nuclear issue hasn’t worked. The agreements fixed in the Joint statement of the “six” are not being accomplished. The inter-Korean relations are going wrong, and the tension between Pyongyang and Seoul periodically becomes extremely dangerous.

MILESTONES OF THE HISTORY

M. Konarovsky. Three sentinel milestones: post scriptum

Last year there took place three anniversaries, which have special significance in the almost hundred-year history of the relations between our country and Afghanistan. Last spring there accomplished 95 years of the recognition of Afghanistan’s independence and sovereignty by Moscow. This February 25 years of the Soviet troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan were marked. And this last December it couldn’t help being recalled the resolution by the CPSU Central Committee’s Politburo on their introduction, approved ten years earlier.

A.Sizonenko. Russia – Peru: long history of the relations

Peru is one of the largest states of South America. As to the territory, the country occupies the third place in the region, as to population, – the fourth one (about 30 million habitants). It’s the country of ancient Incans, with the rich and original history and culture. Peru plays a notable role in international relations in the Western Hemisphere. The history of Russian-Peruvian relations, springing yet the century before last, is not less interesting either.
