G.Rapota. Russia and Belarus: region of common statehood

The Union State of Russia and Belarus, unique formation at the post soviet territory has already turned 15 years. Within the framework of this complicated project, aimed at creating a united statehood of the two countries, there are being solved most bold tasks. It’s referred both to the formation of united social field for the citizens of Russia and Belarus and to the possibility of free migration and freedom in choosing job location, place of residence and education institution.  Namely, the point at issue is to create such conditions, so that Byelorussians in Russia and Russians in Belarus not feel foreigners.  Another task is also being solved – there is being created a united field for Russian and Byelorussian business and industrial, financial and bank systems.

V.Vasiliev.  “Ostpolitik” of Germany: contradictory evolution

Statements by Chancellor A. Merkel, President J. Gauck,  FRG’s ministers of foreign affairs and defense as well as by deputies in the course of debates on Ukraine and sanctions against Russia in Bundestag point out policy tightening regarding Russia  by the German political class. Such ideas as “friendship between Russians and Germans” and “historical reconciliation between the two peoples” have started to vanish from the political vocabulary FRG’s leaders and deputies. Their demands and it’s impossible to call otherwise the wordings, sort of “Russia must”, “Russia is obliged” or “if Russia doesn’t take concrete steps, there will be followed next tougher measures” have aroused and continue arousing questions.

EDITOR’S IN CHIEF COLUMN

A.Oganesyan. Has Putin created the Bible?

Russia is not going to head anti West ideology, because today, as a matter of fact, there is no West ideology; it is substituted with a number of armchair postindustrial “idiotgems”. Just the attempts to impose Russia commandments of modernism and post Christianity have provoked a sharp backlash not only from Russians, but from a considerable part of Europeans as well. Putin told them a categorical “no” and then grounded this “no” in terms, intelligible for Europeans.

LANDMARKS OF HISTORY

A.Kuznetsov.The tragedy of Russia’s situation consisted in the fact, that it was a vanquished victor.

In the course of the twentieth century scholars racked their brains over the reasons of the First World War, and there continue to exist different points of view on this topic. But, as far as Russia is concerned, the researches of recent years have evidently testified, that, in the first place, Russia did not want any war, and, secondly, the Russian diplomacy did all possible to avert it. On the other hand, Russia was a part of the international system, which was steadfast   and fatally leading to a conflict in Europe. And Russia could not jump off the step of this steam-engine.

Yu. Bulatov. Centrifugal and centripetal trends in the development of a multinational state.

The intertwining of two trends in the national issue is a distinctive feature of the Russian multinational state both in the recent past and under the conditions of present day. This topic was a discussion point among left-leaning party functionaries in Russia and abroad as far back as the eve of the First World War.
